2026.01.27 – Custom Valve Weldment

Our client required a large, complex valve weldment — a heavy fabrication involving a flanged cone body, internal gusseting, and tight positional tolerances across multiple mating surfaces. The scope exceeded what any single shop could efficiently handle alone, requiring both precision machining and heavy fabrication capabilities under one coordinated effort.

Kubes Steel partnered with a local Hamilton-area machine shop to divide the work according to each shop’s strengths. Machined components — including the large top flange — were produced by the machine shop, while Kubes Steel took responsibility for the full weldment assembly and fabrication. Fit-up sequencing, weld distortion management, and the interface between machined and fabricated components were all planned in advance to ensure the assembly came together accurately.

Working from supports on the shop floor, the Kubes Steel team assembled the cone body, internal gusset structure, and flanged components into a single heavy weldment. The internal gusseting was laid out and welded to maintain structural integrity and positional accuracy of the flanged openings. Close coordination with the machine shop throughout ensured that machined mating surfaces landed correctly in the final assembly.

The finished weldment was completed on time and to specification — a direct result of the collaborative approach between Kubes Steel and our local manufacturing partner. This project is a good example of the kind of integrated manufacturing ecosystem that makes Hamilton a competitive hub for heavy industrial fabrication.
